If one car can go 200 mph, that doesn’t mean all cars can go 200 mph – the components dictate performance. The same rule applies to water purification systems.
The internet is loaded with companies selling purification systems of every size, shape and configuration – each promising the “best” solution for everyone’s needs. However, note that when a company says, “Reverse Osmosis removes iron, salt, arsenic, and everything but the hydrogen dioxide molecules”, they are NOT saying that their unit does. With an ultra-fine membrane and 900 pounds of pressure per square inch, a reverse osmosis system can, indeed, remove salt. But there is not one house in the world which has water pumping at 900 psi through its pipes. A large and expensive pump is required to achieve that kind of pressure. These average around $1,000. Does the $300 RO system claiming “reverse osmosis removes salt” actually remove salt? Highly doubtful.  The same holds true for claims such as “Carbon micro-filtration removes harmful microorganisms” -- yes, really large ones, but not all harmful bacteria or viruses.  The claim “Ultraviolet exposure can eradicate
anything your water!” is true, it can, IF the water is in the UV chamber long enough and is clear enough that the organisms can’t hide in any shadows. Beware any ultraviolet system that claims to purify without prefiltration. Think of sediment as clouds and the bulb as the sun. Do you sunburn faster on a cloudy day or under a bright cloudless sky? Trying to purify your water with a non-filtered UV system is similar to trying to get a deep tan while sitting under an umbrella.
In 1992, the chief engineer of The CSA Group, Inc. was looking for a solution to provide drinking water on his boat – as he planned to cruise from California to the Sea of Cortez. Effective reverse osmosis systems, at that time, cost between $3,500 and $6,000, and produced extremely small amounts of water per day, and required unacceptable amounts of electric power. UV systems were also costly and were very rudimentary. Inspired by an unmet need, he set to work on bulding a system that would keep him and his family safe on that trip. In February of 1994, he arrived in Cabo San Lucas, fully hydrated and disease free, having utilized this new system to refill his water tanks at fishing villages along the way. By 1995, The CSA Group, Inc. was providing top-of-the-line UV systems, certified by the prestigious Truesdale Labs in Irvine, California, to the worlds largest boating and camping retailers. Now, fifteen years later, the technology has continued to evolve – manufacturing methods have grown more sophisticated, part prices have lowered, and that same engineer has found a way to decrease the cost per unit while increasing its effectiveness. Combining the lowered cost with the increased effectiveness, a system to meet the requirements of home use was born. The units produced by The CSA Group, Inc. continue to exceed any guidelines set forth, and they can be produced and sold for less than ANY comparable UV system on the market. Yes, our car can go 200 mph.
